Choctaw County Cooks - The Best in the State of Mississippi

Choctaw County Cooks
  The Best in the State!

As a fund raiser for the Choctaw County Library Carpet Fund and the Choctaw County Homemaker Volunteers, a cookbook is being compiled that will begin being sold at the Choctaw County Holiday Open House to be held on Thursday, December 5, 2002. The Open House is sponsored by the Choctaw County Homemaker Volunteers, Choctaw County 4-H, and the Choctaw County Library. A number of other organizations and businesses are also participating in the Open House.

The cookbook, which will sell for $5.00, will feature recipes contributed by the fabulous cooks from Choctaw County. This is an ideal time to contact friends and family that have moved away from the area and ask them to submit a recipe—or two or three! Recipes are not limited to holiday foods.

The categories for recipes are:

bulletLet’s Get Started—Appetizers, Party Foods and Beverages
bulletThe Main Event—Main Dishes and Everything That Goes With Them!
bulletSweets for the Sweet—Desserts and other Sweets
bulletSomething Special—Foods for Special Diets
bulletKids Korner—Recipes For and By the Kids!
bulletOdds and Ends—Miscellaneous Recipes

The recipes should be written using the form shown on the back of this page. Please include accurate, standard measurements. Do not use measurements such as “a No. 2 can” since this is not something everyone can understand. If duplicate recipes are submitted, multiple names will be listed with the recipe. If possible type the recipe. If this is not possible, write clearly so mistakes will not be made when we compile the cookbook. Check the recipe carefully to be sure others can clearly understand the instructions. Double check to be sure all ingredients are included and measurements are correct.

Since this is a fundraiser, it is important that we sell as many cookbooks as we can! People do not want to buy cookbooks that have the same recipes in it as are found in other cookbooks, so submit recipes that are new and not seen in every cookbook on the shelf!

We reserve the right to omit any recipe that does not conform to USDA food safety standards.

Call Patty Draper, Extension County Director, at (662) 285-6337 if you have any questions about the cookbook. We look forward to seeing what wonderful recipes Choctaw County Cooks can provide!

Recipes must be mailed to the address below or brought by the Choctaw County Extension Service Office in the Courthouse Annex in Ackerman no later than November 18, 2002. Recipes can also be emailed to:
