Dear Ackerman Alumni,
A new scholarship has been established at
Ackerman High School in memory of Mrs. Ethel
Rone Brunt. Mrs. Brunt was a longtime beloved
teacher at Ackerman. She devoted 34 years to
teaching students not only business subjects but
also lessons in life.
A lady of high moral standards and a devout
Christian, Mrs. Brunt was not a respecter merely
of persons, but of ability and character. Mrs.
Brunt, who battled cancer from June 1993 until her
passing July 4, 2002, was much loved by, and was
an inspiration to her students.
The scholarship will be awarded to a senior
from Ackerman High School each year that will be
majoring in Education. The scholarship shall be
awarded based upon the student’s economic need and
aptitude for furthering his/her education and
training. Additional considerations will also be
the applicant’s moral fitness, and deportment
while attending Ackerman High School.
Any person or business interested in making a
donation to the Ethel Rone Brunt Scholarship Fund
should send a check to:

Sounds of laughter could be heard drifting down
Cochran Street from the Candlewick Inn last
Saturday when nineteen members of the Ackerman
High School Class of 1969 got together for a long
overdue class reunion. It took a long distance
phone call all the way from the West Coast to get
the ball rolling for the event to become a
reality. President of the Class of 1969, Doug
Burney, made a phone call to Buddy Smith and
within a matter of weeks, plans were forming to
bring the group together.
