AHS Class of 1958 to hold 50 year
reunion
How one class member is bringing them back
together at AHS
The
AHS Class of 1958 has had only one class reunion
over the past fifty years that was organized by Theron Reid who is now deceased. Class of 1958
member Brigadier General
Dick Burney
USAF (Ret) expected that one of his classmates
would initiate some plans for fifty year reunion
but heard from no one. Finally, General Burney
decided that if it was to happen he would have
to be the one to do it. The result is that all
former living class members have now been
contacted and plans are being made for a full
weekend of celebrations that will be held in
tandem with the annual Ackerman School Reunion
on Saturday, April 26, 2008 on the campus of
Ackerman High School.
When
asked how he accomplished this, General Burney
said, “First, I made an alphabetical list of
my classmates from our 1958 annual. Next, I
called those that were in the Ackerman phone
book, and then I began to use my computer to
find others in the white pages. I enlisted the
support of several others and began recording
the mailing addresses, email addresses, and
phone numbers of my classmates. Thankfully, with
a lot of help, everyone has been located. Of the
44 who graduated, 36 are survivors. I especially
appreciate the help of Hazel arrett and Sylvia
Moreland."
So,
how long did it take General Burney to locate
all of his classmates? He said, “Over the
period of about a month, all my classmates were
located. It was fun. I have personally talked to
most of my surviving classmates and will
continue to encourage their participation in our
50th reunion.”
The
Ackerman School Reunion Group will meet this
year on Saturday, April 26, in the Ty Cobb
Complex on the AHS campus. Registration begins
at 12:00 Noon and the program at 2:00 P.M. There
is no charge for the event. More information can
be found on the website –
