A generous challenge from AHS Class of 1944
Window of opportunity for Ackerman School
Reunion Group
The
AHS Class of 1944 has issued a generous challenge of matching funds to all
graduates and friends of Ackerman High School
who make up the Ackerman School Reunion Group.
Maxie Bruce, spokesman for the
AHS Class of 1944, has issued a generous Class
challenge to match all contributions made to the
Ackerman School Reunion Group up to $1,500.00
until the last day of April, 2008.
Ackerman School Reunion Group President Bruce
Erwin (AHS Class of 1962) says that this
generous offer and challenge comes to our group
at a critical time. “We are approaching that
time of the year when we need to raise funds for
our ongoing operating expenses and our annual
Reunion Scholarship Fund for graduates of
Ackerman High School,” said Erwin. Ackerman
School Reunion Group Vice President Hazel
Crenshaw Garrett (AHS Class of 1964) hopes that
classes and individuals will take advantage of
this window of opportunity. “This is the
first time our group has been given such a
benevolent challenge and I hope that we’ll all
do our part to make it happen.”
The
Ackerman School Reunion Group is made up of
former students, administrators and friends of
AHS and has been meeting at the school on an
annual basis since 1998 for the purpose of
renewing friendships, reflecting on those good
ole days and reconnecting with the current
activities and goals of the school. Last year
the Reunion Group established the Ackerman
Reunion Scholarship Fund to provide an annual
scholarship of up to $500 to a graduating senior
from AHS planning to further his or her
education in an academic or vocational field.
Ackerman Reunion Group President Bruce Erwin
urges former students, administrators and
friends of AHS to make contributions before the
end of April in order to see their donations
double with the matching funds from the AHS
Class of 1944. Contributions can be made in memory or honor of a
classmate, teacher, coach or administrator if
desired. “We will gladly send an
acknowledgement of your gift if desired and we
are provided with contact information,”
Erwin says. Another opportunity would be to
support the Ackerman Reunion Scholarship Fund
with a donation. A gift to the Ackerman Reunion
Scholarship Fund could be made in memory or
honor of a classmate, teacher, coach or
administrator if desired and we will send an
acknowledgement of your gift to the family if
provided contact information. Our Reunion Group
treasurer, Drexel McClure (AHS Class of 1948)
jdmc@telepak.net will gladly assist you with
your memorials/honorariums and can be reached at
2540 Bywy Rd., Ackerman, MS, 39735,” said Bruce Erwin.
The
Ackerman School Reunion Group will meet this
year on Saturday, April 26, in the Ty Cobb
Complex on the AHS campus. Registration begins
at 12:00 Noon and the program at 2:00 P.M. There
is no charge for the event. More information can
be found on the website –
